Meet the women pulling this weekend together…
Pictured Left to Right... Jennifer Ketring (Windy Hollow Farms), Shauna Boyd (Oz Farm), Jacqueline Strock (Roots Herbal Apothecary), Gillian Nye (Roots Herbal Apothecary), Terri Heath Peters (Chaos Farm), and Rebecca Willhoit (Oz Farm)
Shauna Boyd’s car has a bumper sticker that reads “Plant seeds and sing songs”. She has lived at Oz Farm with her husband and daughter for nearly nine years, growing flowers, herbs and food, coordinating retreats, and facilitating Oz cultural events such as summer camps, barn concerts and harvest festivals. Shauna has also taught children’s music classes and likes to sing and write songs, play guitar, and drum.
Terri Heath Peters has been studying herbs and making medicine for 6 years, since she moved to Point Arena to intern at Oz Farm in 2003. She is currently creating permaculture gardens with her partner at Chaos Farm, their 40-acre homestead. Terri spends her days cultivating organic vegetables, herbs and flowers for the Farmer’s Market and for Coastal Posies, a floral business she shares with Shauna and Jennifer. She has studied Afro-Brazilian Orisha dance for 12 years, which honors the forces of nature and the presence of the elements in our lives.
Her passion for plants and dance culminates in the garden.
Jennifer Ketring has laid roots in the coastal prairie at Windy Hollow Farm, an off-the grid farmstead she is creating with 3 generations of family. There she cultivates vegetables in the field, tends the herb and flower gardens, wildcrafts food and medicine, and propagates plants in the greenhouse. She shares her gardening experience through consulting work with the Bay-Friendly Gardening Program as a garden educator and organizer. Jennifer, an advocate for sustainable food systems and local farms, also nourishes the bellies and souls of folks attending coastal events with organic food and flowers.
Gillian Nye is a lover of plants and natural medicine, and has been exploring the relationship between herbs and healing for the last 18 years. She is proud to be raising her children through herbal and nutritional health, and advocates this for her community. As the co-owner of Roots Herbal Apothecary and co-creator of Roots Originals bodycare products, Gillian has had the opportunity to experience true healing through natural medicine and care for our bodies. She believes in pure products, nutritive foods and teas, an active outdoor life, and a positive attitude. Gillian looks forward to sharing these things during our herbal weekend, along with easy and effective ways to bring herbal medicine and healing into your life!
Jacqueline Strock is the founder and co-owner of Roots Herbal Apothecary, a successful herb store in Point Arena, California since 2004. She went to The Rocky Mountain Center for Botanical Studies in Boulder, Colorado to further her interest in herbalism. There she completed over 600 hours of study. She lives and homesteads on a 60- acre ridgetop with her partner of 14 years and their daughter Violet Ocean, where together they cultivate edibles and medicinals for their friends and family. Jacqueline is a lifelong student of the plants, who enjoys sharing what she learns with all who care to listen.
Rebecca Willhoit embraces herbal living at Oz Farm, where she resides with her two sons, keeps bees and acts as host manager. She also helps tend a goat herd, making fresh goat cheese to complement the abundant produce harvested from the farm. Rebecca is a seasoned gardener and artist—she merges her enthusiasm for both at the annual Oz Farm Camp for kids and the local Charter School. The essence of the weekend is captured in Rebecca’s “Seed to Salve” watercolor used for the workshop poster.
